Frequently asked questions
- Why do different marketplaces take such different cuts?
- Each product bundles different services. Marketplaces may stack a selling or transaction fee with payment processing, while processors such as Stripe and Square generally charge only for moving money. Whatnot and Reverb both charge separate commission and processing fees, and Poshmark uses a tiered commission. Each calculator itemises the deductions it models.
- Are these fee rates current?
- Every calculator shows the date its rates were last checked and links to the platform's published fee page. Rates marked 'check current rate' are widely-published figures you should confirm in your seller dashboard, because platforms change pricing and may offer you negotiated or promotional rates.
- Does shipping get charged fees too?
- Usually yes. Most marketplaces apply their percentage fee to the total amount the buyer pays, including the shipping you charge. That is why offering 'free shipping' rarely saves on fees — it simply moves the shipping cost into the item price.
