Frequently asked questions
- Why do different marketplaces take such different cuts?
- Each platform bundles services differently. Some charge a single all-in selling fee (Whatnot, Reverb), others stack a final value fee, a per-order fee, and separate payment processing (eBay, Etsy). Payment processors like Stripe and Square only charge for moving money, while Poshmark uses a flat commission. The calculator for each platform itemises exactly which fees apply.
- Are these fee rates current?
- Every calculator shows the date its rates were last checked and links to the platform's published fee page. Rates marked 'check current rate' are widely-published figures you should confirm in your seller dashboard, because platforms change pricing and may offer you negotiated or promotional rates.
- Does shipping get charged fees too?
- Usually yes. Most marketplaces apply their percentage fee to the total amount the buyer pays, including the shipping you charge. That is why offering 'free shipping' rarely saves on fees — it simply moves the shipping cost into the item price.
